ABOUT

www.crossingamy.comHi!  My name is Amy, pronounced Ey-mee.  If you’re American, of course the phonetics are obvious.  If you’re British, you probably know the name, although let’s be honest—you’ve got your own Amy to deal with.  But in and around my neck of the Puszta, it usually comes out Ah-mee. As in, Amish.  Short o, confused expression.  I didn’t give it much thought until someone told me that Ah-mee is Hungarian slang for “American.”  How about that?!  As my husband would say, es passt.  And if something passt, I go with it.

Those are the basics of my personal life:  American, living in Hungary, married to a German.  (If you want to know why and how, check out the Living Abroad page.)

Professionally, I do research and analysis for a Consumer Packaged Goods company in an entirely different European country, just for optimal cultural confusion.  If my career is about unlocking international consumer insights, the passion of my private life is human insights—especially those that are revolutionary to me as an American.  Of course, much of what I have to say is wildly subjective, so if you disagree with my opinion, please feel free to let me know.  Same goes for anything you find politically or factually incorrect.

This blog is about my life as an expatriate, my travels, my observations, and some of my thoughts about each.  Unavoidably, my love of food and healthy living will surface quite often.  You’ll also get a generous dose of Hungary here, but this is not about any one country.  It is, actually, quite the opposite.
