Photos from Italy

by Amy Rae on May 4, 2010

I decided, in the end, that I should probably revisit that li’l visit to Italy.  You know, the one from, what?  A month ago?  And by revisit, I mean stop stalling, conclude, get it over with already.  Rather than tell you what we did day by day, restaurant by restaurant, I’m going to let the slideshow below be worth my usual thousand words.

These are the shots recall for me entire sun-drenched days, fleeting moments, and minute-but-precious details.  The ones that make me smile, even weeks later.  There’s  focaccia tipo Recco, anti-yogurt graffiti, and miles and miles of sangiovese vines.  There’s a Pinocchio doll in the window of a shop that could have been Geppetto’s, in the land where the story originated.  There’s a Tuscan lady, pouring us olive oil straight out of the barrel in her basement.  There are teeny tiny side streets and mondo monster lemons (citrons?).    Unfortunately, I wasn’t allowed to photograph anything in the Uffizi Gallery, nor the sheer, eye-widening awesomeness that is the David.  However, during a quick drive through Carrara, we did stumble upon a dazzler of a stack of seemingly-abandoned marble—reminiscent of David’s origins.  Just use your imagination on that one.

I wish you all a happy week and a merry May!
